Hello backers -

Right off the bat: if you have not filled out your BackerKit survey, you MUST do so. About 400 people still have not completed this and we need it in order to ship out to those individuals.

Moving on to the fun stuff now - we have so many exciting announcements to make this week!

We want to hear from you! Can you drop a comment letting us know what the first thing is you’re going to watch on your PicoPix Max and the app you plan on watching it with?

Indiegogo share

2000-Pieces Production Round Finished... and SHIPPED!

We started the production last week with 1000 pieces and made the first QC in order to confirm the quality of our very first products leaving the factory. This week, we will start shipping around 2000 pieces and then next week around 2000! Each backer will receive an update from BackerKit when their PicoPix Max ships out.

Important Note: We are receiving over 200 emails/day inquiring about individual delivery dates. Unfortunately, we cannot answer each backer one by one so we are asking for your patience - the BackerKit system will send you an automatic email with your tracking number.

Here’s a short video of the production line in action!

Important Software Update

This is very important - please read thoroughly. As we mentioned in an earlier update, we will release new updates by FOTA (Firmware Over The Air) in order to keep your PicoPix Max up to speed as we fix bugs, make improvements, etc.. As soon as you receive your PicoPix Max, we highly recommend you go to Settings > Update > check for the latest version (you will maybe need to do it twice as there will be several updates).

Also, a reminder that the product you receive will evolve day over day, week over week, with added features, enhancements, and bug fixes.

IF YOU FIND A BUG: All bug feedback needs to be sent via EMAIL ONLY to [email protected] so our software team can document and address it properly. The comments section on Indiegogo simply isn’t organized enough to make this possible.

Our team will focus on the most urgent fixes and feature improvements first, followed by smaller, minor level 2 and 3 bugs and feature changes in the following weeks.

Don’t sweat the little stuff on this first round of software - as we mentioned before, it will continue to improve. That said, here are a few of our top priorities for the upcoming software update:

-    Easy Install may or may not appear - this is being updated. Without “Easy Install”, you’ll need to complete the Bluetooth Remote pairing with the product. Don't worry, it’s an easy process and we will post a video next week showing how to do it.

-    HDR is not running at the moment. However, this is a software-enabled enhancement so we’ll easily be able to include in an upcoming update

-    The mouse pointer will be enhanced and its icon will be changed

-   VLC: if you want to see the TV user interface, you need to go to VLC>Settings>Appearance>TV UI (we cannot modify the app for this)

-    Apple TV+ may not work for the moment as it is still in beta for Android

-    Other APKs/Apps: All third-party apps belong to their respective owners. If an app is not working, this is due to the developer, not Philips.

-    Languages: we will continue adding more language options as updates are pushed out
The Android launcher may crash sometimes - this will be corrected in the next update

-    After uninstalling an app, you have to refresh manually the apps list on the settings panel - this will be corrected in the next update

-    Wi-Fi/BT signal is not shown on the launcher for the moment: this will be corrected in the next update

-    AirMouse sensitivity will be improved in the next update

-    Color Management will be improved in the next update

-    Battery icons may display false information - this will be corrected ASAP

-    Youtube: you cannot sign in with your account as we don’t have Google GMS yet

-    Netflix and Express VPN app: DO NOT update these apps from the APTOIDE store - we are working on a fix and will update ASAP.

Updated launcher!

Here is the updated launcher with a more polished design and app interface. We are continuing to work on it and can’t wait to push out the next update soon.

We’re Always Here

Thank you, as always, for your patience and support. In order to prioritize bug fixes and other vitally important feature updates, we will be unable to answer each and every backer regarding their delivery date for the next few weeks. We know you’re excited to receive yours - please be patient.

With gratitude,
The Philips PicoPix Max Team

Mon Nov 25 '19 Announcement
about 5 years ago – Mon, Nov 25, 2019 at 12:41:00 PM

Hello backers -

This week, we’re excited to cover new developments as well as a few photos that just came in from our production team:

Ready to see more? Check out the entire album (including videos!) here.

EXCITING NEWS: Widevine L1 integration approved!

-  This integration means that Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, and Prime all work perfectly in Full HD! We’ll also be testing out Disney+ this week.

We have generated a private key and provided it to Google in order for them to give us their “key box,” which will be burned inside the CPU in a secret area.

-  This step cannot be completed via software update - it can only be completed at the factory level.

-  We are now waiting for Google for this key box and cannot ship out until it’s completed. At this point, we’re estimating a 10-day delay based on this. Please be patient - this integration will definitely make your experience better as you were all waiting for it!

We’re locking BackerKit surveys on Tuesday (Nov. 26), and charging VAT / add-ons you purchased on Backerkit on Thursday (Nov. 28).

General reminder: if everything is correct, you don’t need to do anything! If you see a mistake or something that needs updating (address, contact information, etc.) the BackerKit survey will let you update your information before we ship out your PicoPix Max. We'll be sending out one final reminder email, so if you haven’t yet filled out your survey, please check your email.

Reminder to European backers: as mentioned in previous updates, you’ll need to pay VAT tax when filling out your Backerkit survey. This way, you won’t be required to pay it upon delivery or pickup.

For companies with a valid VAT number: please email us with “PicoPix Max: Company Invoice Requested” in the subject line so we can waive your VAT amount in BackerKit and send you a proper invoice instead, without the VAT amount. If you decide to pay the VAT, the invoice will contain the VAT amount. We will need your Company name, full address, phone number, and VAT number (If you have EORI, that’s even better).

ATTN new backers: there is a 10-day delay between your purchase and your survey being sent to you by BackerKit. If you haven’t received the survey within 11 days post-purchase, please check your spam and email us if you cannot find it!

100-piece pre-production round complete!

Our whole team went to China to work on the last software fine tuning and we took a picture of the very first sample! Our pre-production run is made to ensure the next round of mass production won’t have any issues and will pass all tests and QC. We found a small issue on the autofocus (the camera needed some small adjustments) and we are fixing it - we’re ready for mass production!

Future Software Updates

We will be counting on you and all of our other backers to help us and make this product the best in the market. We will push software updates every 1-2 weeks for the first few months so we can squash any bugs/issues you find.

Integrations: We will also add integrations like Philips Hue, Sonos, etc. in the first few months after shipping!

ARC (audio return channel): we explored this functionality due to it being a popular backer request but unfortunately our testing found it just wasn’t stable enough. We will continue testing and will keep you posted.

USB to DAC (digital-to-analog converter): we tested 5 different DAC, but didn't find any Android-compatible DAC with 5.1 output, only 2.0. We are still digging here. More news in the coming months.

InDemand Ending Soon

We’ll be officially closing the InDemand portion of our campaign and stop accepting pre-orders in the next week or so. If you still know of folks who want a big pre-order discount but haven’t placed their order yet, this is their last chance!

We’re Always Here

Thank you, as always, for your patience and support. If any questions come up, don’t hesitate to reach out: [email protected].

The Philips PicoPix Max Team

Hello backers -

We know you’re eagerly awaiting your PicoPix Max and we’re working hard to ensure it’s the best pico projector on the market today. Thank you for your support and patience, it’s truly appreciated!

We’re back with a few very exciting developments and pictures!

Some of you also asked some pictures of our tripod, international charger and video/charging USB-C port. The tripod is thin, pocket-friendly, and can be set up at a 90° tilt! Check them out below:

tripod, USB-C and international chargers

L to R, top images: Tripod tilted 90 degrees to project onto the ceiling, tripod in standard setup
Bottom image: Updated charger with 3 plugs and USB-C. Japan & AU plugs are not shown but will still be included in shipments to those countries.

Tooling is Complete!

We’ve finished creating the mould that will be used to produce the casing of your PicoPix Max. We were particularly careful and dedicated extra time to ensure each unit’s casing has the best finish, color, and durability possible. Now we’ll be preparing all of our components to start production!

tooling for PPM complete

Pre-production Begins

Components are being readied for the first 25-50 pre-production samples which will be finished on Nov. 15. Full production will begin 3 days later, on Nov. 18. We will also begin packaging and shipping out as soon as the first 1000 projectors have been manufactured. Shipping will begin with our first backers and continue sequentially until all pre-orders have been fulfilled!

Widevine Support

This remains an ongoing issue as we wait for Google and Widevine to finalize their internal discussions. In the event Google is unable to approve us for Widevine before shipment, we will provide you with a FOTA (“Firmware Over-The-Air”) update to ensure your device receives it. Please note that while we are doing our best to continue amplifying this issue to both companies, we are beholden to them for a final solution.

DEX and MUI DESKTOP

After extensive testing, we can officially announce: Samsung DEX and Huawei MUI Desktop mode both work perfectly using PicoPix Max’s USB-C. These improvements mean you’ll be able to work directly using your phone and a keyboard and/or mouse.

UI is Complete!

We are proud to show you the interface of your new PicoPix Max! All colors, wallpapers, and icons have been chosen for maximum contrast and visibility.

Backerkit surveys will be sent over the next 10 days.

As we’ve been prepping to send out your backer survey via Backerkit, we’ve been so thrilled to see backer representation from every corner of the world - including the Mariana Islands and Iceland!

Fill out your survey as soon as you receive it so we can ship out your PicoPix Max ASAP.

If everything is correct, great! If you see a mistake or something that needs updating (address, contact information, etc.) this survey will let you update your information before we ship out your PicoPix Max.

Quick note to each region’s backers regarding taxes/VAT:

EU backers: you’ll be able to pay your VAT directly via Backerkit, thereby avoiding the hassle of doing so in upon delivery. You’ll be prompted through this process when you receive your Backerkit survey later this week.

US backers: we’re still verifying the process of collecting sales tax for your pre-order as each state collects taxes for this differently. We’ll keep you updated - please make sure you read each update (like this one) as they are posted.

Rest of world backers: relevant taxes can be paid to the shipping company online or at your door, depending on your preference and the shipping company’s ability to do so. Stay tuned for more shipping information in the coming weeks.

We’re Always Here

Thank you, as always, for your patience and support. If any questions come up, don’t hesitate to reach out: [email protected].

Sat Oct 19 '19 Announcement
over 5 years ago – Sat, Oct 19, 2019 at 12:10:18 PM

Hello backers -

Now that the campaign is officially complete, our team is kicking the final tweaking and manufacturing into high gear. We’re still right on track with the mid-November shipping date mentioned in the previous update.

Product Updates

Recent improvements and upgrades include:

MicroSD:

-  Now supports up to 2TB

Bluetooth 5:

-  We’ve tested 15 different brands that utilize Bluetooth, including old and new speaker models, as well as earphones and are delighted to announce that we’ve had zero lag. No sync issues here!

Testing ARC + 5.1 over USB through an external soundcard:

-  This is testing only for the moment and may not be implemented if we find it to be too unstable

New optical engine in place:

800 vs. 850px

-  We tested our new optical engine and measured its new brightness: we are now at 850 ANSI Color Lumens! We promised you a sharper, clearer image and are thrilled with the results. Here’s a look at this update.

-  Why 850?

-  This new engine is 20% brighter. This includes the degradation from having the light pass through the DMD engine and the lens before projecting to the wall, which is why the 800 → 850 ANSI Color Lumen improvement is not a direct 20% increase.

-  We found a happy medium for consumption, fan noise and engine lifespan that won’t push it beyond its capacity and ruin your experience.

Fan noise:

-  We have received the third version of our PCBA with the new fan connected to the temp sensor. We are now at 34.5db and still working on decreasing it. The ratio of projector size to engine power is even better than we were hoping for when we first designed PicoPix Max.

fan ratio

Casting and streaming:

-  You’re now able to screen mirror your phone, cast Youtube, and multitask on your phone while watching casted content on your projector

-  Airplay and Google Cast are both working

-  The projector is recognized as an external speaker in Apple Music, so you can listen to music directly on the projector and cast it from your phone...without setting up a full screen mirroring!

Express VPN:

-  Fully implemented and finalized. You’ll receive 30 days for free + 15 months for the price of 12 for a total of 16 months for the price of 12 (offer only available to new subscribers).

Screeneo collection app cleaner:

-  We’ve ported this feature to your PicoPix Max so you can easily free up RAM space.

Widevine L1:

-  Widevine L1 is our top priority. It’s a long process but we’re working hard every day to push for updates from the Google team.

-  Many thanks to the group of backers in the comments section who have been escalating a request to Google for the PicoPix Max to receive GMS.

The Fun Isn’t Over Yet

We received a flood of requests, so even though the standard Indiegogo pre-order campaign has ended, we’ve decided to continue accepting a few more pre-orders here on Indiegogo using their “InDemand” campaign model.

As an original backer, you received the best discounts we will ever offer. Pre-orders made during this new InDemand stage will come with far lower discounts. This is intended as a bridge between the price offered during the original Indiegogo campaign and the prices that will be offered when we launch with a standard ecommerce experience.

Keep An Eye Out for Updates

Expect to receive an email and survey to confirm your shipping address in the next few weeks.

We will be using a platform called BackerKit - it’s a trusted resource for crowdfunding campaigns that helps us ensure your projector is fulfilled and shipped on time

If you have an address correction/update you need to make, no need to email us. Instead, you’ll be able to make the change when you receive your BackerKit survey. You’ll also be able to handle VAT costs in your BackerKit survey.

We don’t need anything from you yet, except for you to keep an eye on your inbox. We will post another update before starting the process.

We’ll continue to push out news and information via updates like this one. Expect to hear from us every 2-3 weeks until all units are delivered.

Don’t Hesitate to Reach Out

You can always reach out to our team directly at [email protected] or via Facebook and Instagram - we would love to hear from you, answer any questions you have, and hear your ideas.

With gratitude,

The Philips PicoPix Max Team
