Dear PicoPix Max owners,

v1.1.03 of PicoPix Max software is now available. This update is about internal stability. The change-log is as follows:

Bugfixes & improvements

• Resolved an issue that could make the projector unresponsive when HDMI is plugged in 7.
• Picture Sharpness setting is now set to 5% by default.
• Resolved an issue that some USB2 and USB3 drives are not recognized.
• Resolved an issue that inserting HDMI and pressing the volume key once will jump two frames.

Internal stability

• Resolved an issue that could occasionally result in generation of corrupted differential updates.
• Reduce the probability of memory leaks.
• Resolved an issue with OEM partition validation after multiple reboots, that could lead to online upgrade failure.
• Added a feature to reset video chip configuration to defaults after installing factory update image.

App updates

• The home screen launcher is updated to v1.4.2 – internal stability and localization update, no user-visible changes on PPX620.
• NEW: Amazon Prime Video TV version is replacing the tablet version – please see separate download below
• The following applications have been updated:
  • Kodi (v18.7.2)
  • VLC (v3.2.11)
  • TED TV (v2.0.4)
  • Hulu (v4.2.0.408850)
  • ExpressVPN (v8.1.0.28747-Philips)
  • SmartYouTubeTV (current latest – this app is updated very frequently, it’s possible it’s already out of date by the time this update is released)
  • AirReceiver (v4.9.1-Philips-20200711) – please see separate download below

How to download and install

Method 1 - Online

Go to your projector’s Settings > Software Update > Software Update > Check to download and update.

Method 2 - Offline

Please follow the offline update process 9.

App updates

Optionally, download and install the following two APKs:

1. Prime Video TV 35 – it’s recommended to uninstall the previous version of Prime Video first.
2. AirReceiver 35 – used for screen mirroring.

To install, transfer them through a USB stick and choose Installable Apps from the File Manager.

Due to a technical reason these two apps did not make it to the online update. We are moving towards a new update system which will resolve these issues, and make it possible for us to issue app updates independently from OS updates.

Known Issues

• If you do not remove Prime Video before installing Prime Video TV, you will see two icons on the Home screen. Please remove the non-TV version. However, both versions can exist side by side.
• Prime Video TV may occasionally show a “problem with HDMI connection.” Please try to start the playback again in this case.

Future work

If your bug fix or improvement didn’t make it in this update, rest assured we are working as fast as possible to close all issues on our task list.

Dear Backers, 

Here are the latest news

As previously said, the production is now 99% finished and we are now accelerating the shipping plan.

Before we go into the details the whole team at Philips Projection would like to apologize for the delays and sometimes apparent lack of communication.

1. For all the international air cargo shipments so far, shipping space is very limited, and our forwarder hasn’t managed to actually keep the shipments happening on the dates previously communicated to and by us. High workload on their part has prevented them from letting us know of their efforts in these regards earlier, they have promised however to keep us better informed of all successes and setbacks alike from now on.
   Specifically the following batches have the following status:

• List 3 116, Batch named Jordan: Shipping for this batch will happen as follows:
  The European part will fly on Monday June 1st with the regular procedure arriving at DHL Germany.
  The non-European part will all ship direct via DHL Hong Kong, shipments starting now and spread over the next few days
• List 3 116, Batches named Laurent and Amy: Shipping for these batches will happen as follows:
  The European part will fly on Saturday June 6th with the regular procedure arriving at DHL Germany.
  The non-European part will all ship direct via DHL Hong Kong, shipments starting soon and spread over the next few days after

2. Russia: 15 backers are already on their way via a different courier. The 60 remaining backers were not shipped yet, however the forwarder promised that they will be picked up and begin transit to Russia on Saturday, May 30th.
   They will confirm to us when they are picked up and will confirm that all 60 backers are included in this shipment.

3. Brazil: we are close to landing another logistics partner, who will do the shipping for these units. Shipping should take 8-10 days. However, we still need the Taxpayer number (CPF in Brazil) for about 19 backers.

4. We have received a list with lots of new “special problems”, so we can now start and continue to act on these (units returned to sender from UPS/DHL, Zip Code issues, wrong addresses, and others). Some are relatively easy to solve with the help of the backers involved, for others we have to put our thinking caps on and get creative. Each backer involved will be invited to an unlisted thread discussing the problem and possible solutions. 

5. Hong Kong deliveries: The reason these are taking so long is because our forwarder is actually using their China warehouse and not one in Hong Kong. So they ship all units into HK, and then give them to Kerry Express for the individual shipments.
   We’ve been told that the delays are coming from the customs clearance as the products enter HK. We’ve been offered the services of a company in HK for customer support.

6. Saudi Arabia: we were told all Express deliveries (were?) / are stopped and it seems to be because of the festival Eid Al-Fitr. We’ve been informed we only can arrange the shipments beginning early June, we’re not sure of the exact date at this moment but we are working on it.
   We will follow up with the forwarder and let you know the status early June or as soon as we do have the information. We are not sure if this applies to other countries in the area as well but will let you know if that’s the case.

Please note that no further action from the individual backers is needed, unless specifically invited to provide extra information.

We will finish the entire production within 1 week and all our effort are now on shipping.

As usual, every backer will receive an email with their tracking number from Backerkit. Don't forget that it needs some days to appear on the UPS/DHL backend.

Hello backers!

Software Update

we have released a service update v1.1.02 which fixes some urgent issues:

• Graphics performance improvement preference is now remembered across reboots. To be sure this is active for you, please go to Settings > Image > Keystone Correction > Automatic Keystone Correction, turn it off and then back on.
• The HDMI-related bug which was causing the PicoPix Max to turn on randomly, sometimes overheating, is solved now. Note that with this, HDMI CEC control is completely disabled. It was enabled recently with an update as an experiment, but in the interest of safety & reliability we have decided to disabled it. The CEC settings in Android hidden settings will have no effect.
• Amazon Prime Videos should work again now. 20
• Built-in apps were updated:
  • Hulu
  • Kodi (now pre-installed)
  • Amazon Prime Video
  • SmartYouTube
  • ExpressVPN (Philips ed.)
  • VLC Player.
• fixes a rare issue where the light engine might not power on at all.

Known issues

IMPORTANT: Preloaded apps may lose their user configuration data. In particular, as Kodi is now a preinstalled app, your Kodi configuration may get overwritten with this update. Please backup your Kodi config before updating and restore it after the update. We are looking for a solution urgently.

All other bug fixes and improvements will be made in upcoming releases. In particular, we are aware that:

• Manual keystone is not saved across reboots
• SD Card and USB drives may not be writeable by 3rd party apps
• The battery ‘time remaining’ may sometimes display negative durations

We are working fast to fix those bugs and add more features for you. Thanks for your patience.

Shipping

We are waiting for the Quality Control of 1,640 new pieces today. We should be able to manufacture 100% of all backers device by the 25th of May. Dear Backers, 

We are changing the way to track if you will be in the next shipments.

We listen to the community and instead of searching for your backerkit number, we will show the Indiegogo Contribution ID number that you can easily find in your Indiegogo account (you also received it by email when you purchased your projector).

When you have your Contribution ID, please go to this online file where you will be able to search for your Contribution ID. If you are in this list, it means that your device will be shipped on the next batch. If you are not, don't worry, we are producing 1,000 to 1,500 device per week. We are also updating this list every week. 

As usual, you will also received an email from Backerkit with your tracking number.

Next shipment is scheduled for the 18th or May where 4,388 new device will be dispatched. Those devices are now being sticked with the tracking numbers.

Our team is currently doing the Quality Control for 1384 new devices.
